Coimbra is one of Europe's oldest university towns. Small streets are running up to the top of the hill in the heart of the city where the buildings of the university can be found. The Baroque library and the Romanesque Old Cathedral are only two of the many sightings here. Perfect place to spend the study-years. We also took a short walk and a rest in the Botanic Garden.
Vila das Aves a small town close to Porto where we found a good place to stay. There's nothing to say about it.
Guimaraes Portugal's birthplace, with medieval castle and walls, houses and a magnificently well-preserved historic centre. At the end of the day we drove our car up to a hill above Guimaraes and had a brilliant view on the town and its surrounding. We also had dinner here in a cave-restaurant, where Fish Pius IX (the hill was named after him) was served.
